Alzheimer’s Disease – From Fundamental Insights to Light at the End of the Translational Tunnel

Remarkable progress has been made towards elucidating mechanisms of AD since the discovery of the Abeta peptide in 1984 which launched the molecular era of AD research. Most recently, provocative data have emerged suggesting that the progression of AD may be due to the cell-to-cell spread of pathological species of tau and Abeta, thereby ushering in exciting new opportunities to arrest AD progression with immune therapies. Thus, the purpose of this meeting, which is held in concert with the parallel PD meeting, is to explore these fundamental insights into mechanisms of AD and the opportunities they provide to translate this knowledge into meaningful interventions for AD.

On behalf of the organizers we invite you to the 22nd Nordic Congress of Gerontology in which we continue the tradition of emphasizing multidisciplinary aspects of aging within a life course perspective. The congress theme Age Well - Challenges for Individuals and Society, highlights notions concerning functioning and well-being, despite the threats and challenges confronting aging individuals. What can we learn from research suggesting measures aiming at the reduction of the effects of compromised health and functioning, and how can we increase autonomy and societal participation?

The main track of the congress will include scientific sessions on multiple aspects of aging, from cell to society. In addition, there will be a sub-track for research and development (R&D) and applied gerontology
